What the data show<\/h2>

Nuclear is the backbone<\/h3>

Nuclear plants produced more than half of electricity throughout the period (51\u201355% in 2018\u20132021). In December 2025, per NEURC, their share reached about 62.7%.<\/p><\/div>

Thermal generation is shrinking<\/h3>

The share of thermal plants fell from almost 37% in 2018 to about 29% in 2021. At the end of 2025 thermal plants and CHPs together produced roughly a quarter.<\/p><\/div>

Rapid growth of renewables<\/h3>

The renewables share rose from 1.7% in 2018 to 8% in 2021. Per NEURC, renewables provided about 11% of generation in 2025, of which about 78% was solar.<\/p><\/div><\/div>

2024\u20132025<\/h2>

Because of attacks on the power system and strong seasonal swings, the generation mix became unstable: nuclear share rises in winter (above 58%) and falls to 43\u201347% in summer when solar plants work, with renewables at about 19% in some months. Annual percentages for these years differ depending on methodology, so we do not show them in the table. Current monthly data are published by NEURC<\/a> and Ukrenergo<\/a>.<\/p>
